What types of grit are there?
- 80= very coarse
- 100= coarse
- 150= medium coarse
- 180= medium fine
- 220= fine
Which grit types do you use for which filing techniques?
80 - filing away old acrylic product - this file is too coarse for gel.
100 - filing away old product and thinning tips.
150 - filing tips, possibly finishing if your nail is too thick.
180 - Finishing artificial nails and preparing natural nails.
220 - finishing and preparing natural nails.
After use, it is best to tap or brush the nail file clean and disinfect it, otherwise, any bacteria present will continue to develop. You can disinfect with Barbicide (mixed) or with alcohol. Using a spray bottle is handy; let the files dry thoroughly before storing them.
Hygiene files are adhesive files that you attach to the metal/plastic handle and remove and discard after use.
